Feline Calicivirus Ag (FCV Ag) Rapid Test Kit

Feline Calicivirus Ag (FCV Ag) Rapid Test Kit

The Feline Calicivirus Antigen (FCV Ag) Rapid Test Kit is a rapid diagnostic assay developed for the detection of FCV antigen in cats. Feline calicivirus is a major viral pathogen associated with feline upper respiratory tract disease, commonly causing symptoms such as oral ulcers, nasal discharge, sneezing, conjunctivitis, and in severe cases, systemic infections.

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

Detection Principle

  • The FCV Ag Rapid Test is based on a solid-phase immunoassay using chromatographic separation.
  • Specific anti-FCV antibodies are immobilized on the test membrane. After the extracted sample is applied:
  • Viral antigens bind to labeled detection antibodies.
  • The immune complexes migrate along the membrane.
  • A visible reaction band appears in the test area when FCV antigen is present.
  • A separate procedural band serves as an internal control to confirm correct test performance.
  • The visual signal pattern determines the final result.

Test Method

  • Please refer to the manufacturer's instructions for detailed operation. A general procedure is outlined below:
  • Bring the test cassette and buffer solution to room temperature.
  • Collect a swab sample from the cat's mouth, nose, or eyes.
  • Insert the swab into the extraction buffer and mix thoroughly.
  • Apply several drops of the prepared sample into the test port.
  • Observe the result after 5–10 minutes.

Result Interpretation:

Observation Conclusion
Both test and control bands visible FCV antigen detected – indicates current infection.
Only control band visible FCV antigen not detected.
Control band absent Invalid test – repeat the procedure.

FAQ

What conditions is this test mainly used for?

This test is mainly used for diagnosing feline upper respiratory infections, especially in cats with mouth ulcers, sneezing, and eye discharge.

Can this test differentiate FCV from FHV?

No. FCV and FHV (feline herpesvirus) cause similar respiratory symptoms and require separate test kits for identification.

Is FCV a serious disease?

Most FCV infections are mild, but some strains can cause severe systemic disease, joint pain, or chronic oral inflammation.

Can vaccinated cats test positive?

Live vaccines may occasionally result in transient weak positives. Results should be evaluated together with vaccination history.

What factors may affect test accuracy?

Poor sampling technique, insufficient viral load, or improper storage of the test kit may affect performance.
